Santhigiri Siddha Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram: The Siddha System of Medicine practiced from time immemorial in South India, especially Tamil Nadu, is among the earliest medical sciences in the world. It lays emphasis on positive health - blending the physical, mental, social, moral and spiritual well being of a person. Thus, it is not only a treatment system but a way of life. The 150-bed Santhigiri Siddha Medical College Hospital was started in 2002-03 as part of the Ashram’s endeavour to revive this traditional medical system which is little known outside Tamil Nadu but has highly effective, inexpensive and quick remedies for several chronic ailments. The minerals, metals and medicinal plants used in Siddha concoctions have a very high therapeutic value.

The techniques used to purify and process the metals reveal an uncanny knowledge that the ‘Siddhars’ (originators of this system) possessed not only of Medicine but also Chemistry. A well stocked pharmacy dispensing authentic ‘Siddha’ medicines prepared at the Santhigiri Ayurveda and Siddha Vaidyasala, separate male and female ‘panchakarma’ rooms, a vegetarian restaurant, general wards, pay wards, AC and non AC deluxe rooms and suites are among the facilities available for the patients.
